sharing my love for words

My primary pedagogical goal is for students to appreciate various ways of articulation and approach their writing with hopefulness and humility. To this end, I aim to help students recognize that writing can be strengthened through practice, and that the process can also be enjoyable. • Available for one-time writing workshops or long-term tutoring through Skype or Zoom in Korean, English, or both

  • Experience in teaching at various levels, ranging from elementary-level English phonics to undergraduate-level writing

  • 3+ years of experience as a peer tutor at the Writing Center at Whitman College, including semester-long training in peer tutoring pedagogy for students at all stages of their writing process

  • 5+ years of experience teaching AP English Literature, argumentative writing, and creative writing to South Koreans ranging from elementary to graduate school students

  • Experience as a writing judge at The Writer’s Workout, in which I read, assessed, and critiqued 20-25 weekly entries remotely for eight weeks of The Writer’s Games

  • NOTE: My pedagogy emphasizes a growth mindset and imaginative, self-reflective assignments which foster a love for thoughtful reading. As such, I aim to develop fundamental reading and writing skills over a longer period of time rather than stressing quick and easy templates for higher scores, techniques for rote memorization, or result-oriented test prep, although I have experience teaching in these areas and have seen students’ test scores improve significantly. Please kindly keep this caveat in mind when requesting tutoring sessions.
